Interdisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation (IPR)

The IPR program was developed for patients with chronic pain of at least a 90-day duration. Typically, not only do these patients present with physical limitations associated with their pain, they also have psychosocial tendencies that complicate the case. These patients are typically taking narcotic medications, are not active in their daily life pursuits, and are not working. Their pain is the center of their life and may be negatively effecting their family and social relationships.

Our Interdisciplinary Pain Program is comprehensive in that it combines a team of pain management physicians, physical therapists, a neuropsychologist, and licensed professional counselors. This program holds the highest certification of the prestigious Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

The goal of the 24-session, 6-week program is to combine pain management, pharmacological management, physical therapy, and psychological counseling to restore function, both physically and mentally.

Upon completion of the program it is expected that the patient:
• Significantly reduce medication intake.
• Increase ability to physically function at a level that gives opportunities for employment or retraining.
• Develop an understanding of methods for pain control besides medications.
• Develop an insight into personal experiences, current stressors and coping strategies.
• Develop realistic expectations of reconditioning, stress management, self-care, and dealing with irrational beliefs.
