Pain Management
Pain management is a team approach at CareFirst. Our team understands that acute and chronic pain presents differently among patients. Specific individualized care is always recommended. This may simply be a prescription from the pain physician or a comprehensive program designed by our team to eliminate a chronic pain syndrome and improve a person’s quality of life. Two of our most popular programs are the Lower Back Osteoarthritis Program and the Knee Osteoarthritis Program.
CareFirst offers a 24- session interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation program. In addition to physical rehabilitation the patient receives individual and group psychological therapy. Goals of the program are to:
• Reduce the patient’s dependence on the healthcare system
• Eliminate or diminish the need for pain medications
• Enhance the patient’s level of physical functioning
• Improve the patient’s vocational abilities
Functional Capacity Evaluations and Physical Performance Evaluations are available as well to address physical and occupational levels as defined by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
